ban the…drinking straw?

British Environment Secretary Michael Gove wants to ban the…drinking straw. That’s his response to estimates by The Marine Conservation Society that the UK goes through 8.5 billion straws each year. They say plastic straws are among the top ten waste items found during beach clean-ups and they have an extremely harmful effect on wildlife that ingest them. The activist group ‘Refuse the Straw’ points out that plastic straws take more than two centuries to disintegrate.
